    Definition -  The legal right granted to author, composer, or artist, who authors, creates, or composes “original creative works” fixed in a tangible
    medium to restrict another from using their work.  Copyright is the “right” to limit or to allow or license another to use, reproduce, copies, publish,
    broadcast, perform, distribute, lend, lease, sell, display, or prepare derivative works based on their original creative work.

                   Nondramatic literary works


    2)      Determine Protectability of Material
                   Original
                   Creative
                   Factual
                   Derivative
                   Titles, Names, Places
                   Ideas, Concepts, Principles

          3)      Determine Ownership
                        ● Work for Hire
                        ● Commissioned Work
                        ● Work of Employee
                        ● Derivative Material
                        ● Permissions
                        ● License
                        ● Co-Owners

           4)      Published
                        ● In the United States
                        ● Internationally

           5)      Prepare and File Application

            6)      Prosecute your rights before the Copyright Office

            7)      Registration

            8)      Good for life of author - usually and more
                     Length of Copyright is life of author plus 70 if created after 1977.
           For Works created prior to January 1, 1978 one needs to analyze dates of publication and creation to  determine date of expiration.
